The Commissioners say Home Rule is about local control. But the money tells a different story.
If you follow the money on the ‘Yes’ side, it leads straight to special interests OUTSIDE the county. (See Lora Thomas’s take on that)
On the ‘Vote NO’ side, the money leads directly to the people of Douglas County.
When campaign finance data were reported on May 29, Stop the Power Grab had raised exactly $33,829.85 from 256 unique donors - 94% of those donors were from Douglas County.
That’s the definition of grassroots support! Way to show up!

By contrast, the ‘Yes on Local Control’ group raised $110,200 from 5 - that’s not a typo - FIVE donors — $110,000 of that came from two land developers and a trust fund outside Douglas County.
Their local support? $100 each from two donors - and one of those two was Commissioner George Teal’s wife, Laura Teal.
If you’re following the math, 99.8% of the dollars contributed for “Local Control” came from outside Douglas County … not exactly local control!
Let’s Get Local!
A large local donor has challenged us to grow our grassroots support by at least 100 new donors this week. The size of your donation is less important than the fact that you get in the game!
The ‘Vote Yes’ campaign has already spent nearly twice as much as Stop the Power Grab has raised. Their campaign finance statement shows they’ve spent nearly $60,000 on advertising, and many voters across the county have already received two slick green ‘Vote Yes’ mailers.
Your donation this week can help put Stop the Power Grab over the top to fund a VOTE NO mailer targeting people who haven’t voted yet. If YOU haven’t voted, vote now! Then our resources can go even further in these final days before the election.
$11.20 sends 20 postcards ~ $56.00 sends 100 postcards
Every dollar makes a difference!
