Hello!
Our mailboxes continue to be pummeled with propaganda from the many YES ON LOCAL CONTROL groups funded by big-money political insiders and special interests who are pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into convincing uninformed citizens that home rule is some kind of "magic bullet" that will allow the county to OPT OUT of overreaching state laws we don't like (it won't because it CAN'T!) and lower property taxes and protect open space, water and the environment (we already can do all of that WITHOUT concentrating more power with the commissioners!)...
Commissioners in DAMAGE CONTROL mode after sham home rule Town Hall
The Townhall on May 28 about home rule was hardly a town hall, as it was dominated by the county attorney and commissioners campaigning for their pet project. Only 7 questions were allowed and many of those were made by pro-home rule shills in the audience to bolster the home rule concept.
When several in the audience demanded their questions be addressed as the meeting was shut down at 7PM, Laydon's response was to threaten to have the sheriff's deputies in the back of the room arrest citizens for "disrupting a public meeting."
Lots of bad press and comments on social media followed that disastrous townhall, so now the commissioners have hurriedly scheduled another townhall on June 17 at 6PM -- a mere 7 days before ballots are due.
There were 9000 folks online on May 28, and if you choose to listen in, make sure you click in the link below to register for the event.

Hello!
There are only 12 days until the $500,000 Special Election on June 24 in which citizens decide if they want home rule and are going to turn the future of Douglas County over to a charter commission handpicked by the commissioners and supported by a big media campaign from YES on Local Control...OR...if citizens want some of their own writing the Charter, should the Home Rule question go forward.
Sounds confusing? Well, it is, because the commissioners and their INSIDER buddies cooked this whole thing up behind closed doors and then suddenly threw home rule into our laps and onto the ballot in just 90 short seconds...
Tuesday, June 10, 2025 Business Meeting
I've included the video of Tuesday's Business Meeting, since two significant Resolutions were passed, and several citizens addressed their government.
The first Resolution that was approved was placed on the Consent Agenda, so there was absolutely NO MENTION during the meeting of this action limiting our First Amendment rights to directly address our government at public meetings. No time was spent discussing or even explaining this highly--and unnecessarily restrictive--Resolution...
...The second Resolution that was approved at this week's business meeting was in support of Home Rule. Wow. Big news. These guys put the thing on the ballot--is there a single person who knows about this election who DIDN'T know the commissioners supported this? It's almost like they want us to think that this was actually SOMEONE ELSE'S idea! Ten citizens addressed the Board, and 9 were OPPOSED. The other speaker at 50:44 did not address home rule. The commissioners were reminded that 54% of citizens who took the recent County sponsored survey were OPPOSED to home rule. The cost of the home rule Special Election (half a million dollars!) was also mentioned--and questioned!
