On Tuesday night, at both the Highlands Ranch Metro District Board Meeting and DCSD Board of Education Meeting, Commissioners and the County Attorney gave stump speeches in favor of Home Rule even though the community was promised that presentations would be “information not advocacy.”

The Commissioners took no questions from the public.

They left just prior to public comment at the HRMD meeting and were absent for public comment at the DCSD BOE meeting.

The Commissioners made no effort to listen to the voices of voters or to address their concerns.

You can also watch the Q&A with the DCSD Board. Here's one exchange of many, with parts of the Q&A both before and after this point.

On Wednesday night, hundreds of citizens attended in person and over 9,000 were watching the livestream of the Commissioners’ one and only Town Hall on Home Rule on Wednesday night.

Citizens erupted when Commissioners ended the meeting after taking only 6 questions, then refused to extend the meeting. Further, Abe Laydon threatened to have the Sheriff’s office remove people who demanded that their questions and concerns addressed by their elected officials.

After the meeting, we had numerous conversations with people who were frustrated and disgusted by the confusion that persists around Home Rule and the Commissioners’ heavy handed push for more power.
